El Portal de Revistas Científicas Complutenses: Del papel al Open Access

Abstract

El Portal de Revistas Científicas Complutense ha supuesto un gran avance en la edición de publicaciones periódicas complutenses. En esta presentación se cuenta su origen y desarrollo en relación con las colecciones digitales de la UCM. En primer lugar, se presenta a la Universidad Complutense para entender sus particularidades dentro del sistema español de educación superior: tamaño de su platilla y número de alumnos; distribución en dos campus; cantidad de titulaciones; etc. La Biblioteca de la Universidad Complutense de Madrid (BUC) es fiel reflejo de esa estructura descentralizada y compleja. Se aportan datos sobre la plantilla de la BUC y sus puntos de servicio.

Desde el punto de vista del apoyo a las actividades de aprendizaje y de investigación la BUC, a través de las colecciones digitales, intenta: facilitar el acceso al conocimiento; reducir barreras de difusión y de publicación; lograr un mayor uso e impacto de la investigación y del patrimonio de la institución; alcanzar un compromiso sobre la preservación a largo plazo. En ese contexto se cuenta la historia del Portal de Revistas Científicas Complutenses y su evolución hasta llegar a ser conforme con los protocolos OAI-PMH e integrarse, por tanto, en las colecciones Open Access de la Universidad Complutense. Un hito importante en el desarrollo del Portal de Revistas Científicas Complutenses ha sido el uso del software OJS para su gestión. El Portal ha conseguido dar una mayor visibilidad a las revistas complutenses que aparecen en DOAJ, Scopus, ISI y Latindex. La producción científica publicada en el Portal es accesible a través de Scirus y de Google Schoolar y sus contenidos son volcados en Dialnet. Algunos títulos son tenidos en cuenta por distribuidores comerciales (Gale, Proquest y Océano). Se dedica una parte importante de la presentación a los criterios de calidad que se aplican a las revistas científicas complutenses que forman parte del Portal.

[ABSTRACT] The Complutense Scientific Journals Portal has been a breakthrough in the publication of periodicals within The Complutense University of Madrid (UCM). This presentation explains its origin and development related to digital collections of the UCM. The first part presents The UCM to understand their peculiarities within the Spanish system of higher education: the size of the institution; the number of students and staff; the distribution on two campuses; the number of Degrees, etc. The Library of The UCM is a reflection of the complex and decentralized structure of the University. The presentation offers quantitative data about the library staff and the library branches. The Library uses their digital collections to support learning and research activities. Digital collections facilitate the access to knowledge, reduce publication barriers and improve information diffusion. The Open Access collections improve the use and the impact of Complutense research results and reach a compromise on the long-term preservation. An important milestone in the creation of the Portal of Scientific Journals Complutense has been the use of the OJS software for its management. The Portal gives a greater visibility to the Complutense Journals that are listed in DOAJ, Scopus, ISI and Latindex. The scientific production published in the Portal is accessible via Scirus and Google Scholar and its contents are collected in Dialnet.
