Abstract
O artigo aborda a importância da caça de camaleões para as famílias quilombolas de Mangueiras, ilha do Marajó, Pará, destacando seu papel fundamental na subsistência e na cultura alimentar dessas comunidades rurais. O estudo investigou as práticas de caça, as crenças e os rituais relacionados a essa atividade, bem como a preparação da carne das camaleoas. A pesquisa, realizada entre 2020 e 2023, adotou uma abordagem etnográfica, incluindo entrevistas abertas, observação participante, conversas informais e etnofotografia. As técnicas de caça mais mencionadas foram ‘no laço’ e ‘com as mãos’. Além disso, o estudo ressalta que a carne de camaleão pode ser preparada guisada ou frita, sendo a primeira opção a preferência da maioria. Os ovos de camaleão também são apreciados por muitos na comunidade, alguns preferindo
os ovos à carne. O artigo enfatiza como a caça de camaleão desempenha um papel crucial na soberania alimentar das famílias quilombolas de Mangueiras, abordando aspectos culturais, alimentares e as práticas de caça.
The article discusses the importance of hunting iguanas for the Quilombola families in Mangueiras - Ilha do Marajó/PA, highlighting its fundamental role in the subsistence and culture of these rural communities. The study investigated hunting practices, beliefs, and rituals related to this activity, as well as the preparation of iguana meat. The research, conducted between 2020 and 2023, adopted an ethnographic approach, including open interviews, participant observation, informal conversations, and ethnophotography. The hunting techniques mentioned most were “with a noose” and “by hand.” Furthermore, the study emphasizes that iguana meat can be prepared stewed or fried, with the majority preferring the former option. Iguana eggs are also appreciated by many in the community, with some favoring eggs over meat. The article furthermore highlights how iguana hunting plays a crucial role in the food sovereignty of the Quilombola families in Mangueiras, addressing cultural, dietary, and hunting practices.
