TARDIS

Abstract

Este TFG consiste en el desarrollo de una aplicación para Android inspirada en la serie de ciencia ficción Doctor Who. En esta serie, el protagonista utiliza una nave espaciotemporal llamada TARDIS (Time And Relative Dimension In Space) para viajar por el tiempo y el espacio. Esta nave tiene la apariencia exterior de una cabina de policía, pero por dentro es mucho mas grande y toma la apariencia de lo que más comúnmente asociamos con una nave espacial. Nuestra aplicación convierte el dispositivo Android en una ventana al interior de esta nave desde el exterior (como si fuese la puerta abierta de la cabina; de hecho está pensada para utilizarse con el móvil encajado a una pequeña cabina de plástico), mostrando un escenario 3D que se puede ver desde distintos ángulos al mover el móvil. El proyecto ha sido desarrollado en su totalidad con Unity e incluye múltiples funcionalidades además de mostrar el interior de la nave con la pantalla del móvil, como emitir el sonido de la TARDIS al mover el móvil, cambiar el fondo exterior en el que se encuentra la nave o escanear la cara del usuario para decidir si se trata o no del Dr. Who y concederle o negarle acceso al interior de la nave en consecuencia.

This TFG consists on the development of an Android app inspired by science fiction TV show Doctor Who. In this show, the main character uses a time machine/spacecraft named TARDIS (Time And Relative Dimension In Space) to travel through time and space. This ship has the outside appearance of a regular police box, but its interior is much larger and takes the appearance of what we more com- monly associate with a spaceship. Our application transforms the android device into a window to the interior of the ship as seen from outside (as though it were the open door of the callbox; in fact, it’s meant to be used with the phone fixed on a small plastic police box), showing a 3D scenery that can be seen from different angles by moving the phone around. The project has been developed in Unity entirely, and it includes multiple functionalities apart from showing the interior of the ship through the phone’s screen, such as making the TARDIS’s sound when the phone moves, changing the outside background or scanning the user’s face to decide whether or not they’re Dr. Who and either grant or deny them access to the ship accordingly.
