Abstract
The analysis of the position of Latin America in the period of the Cold War (1945-1991) and its foreign relations with the US and the European Community in the framework of the West will be the object of study of this research. The peripheral location of the Latin American region made it a primary aim in the dispute over world domination waged between the two superpowers, meaning the US and the USSR. It is necessary to highlight the National Security Doctrine promoted by the US government to establish its influence in Latin America. The Inter-American Treaty of Reciprocal Assistance (by the Spanish-language acronym TIAR) signed in 1947, the creation of the Organization of American States in 1948 or the Alliance for Progress project in the 1960s are just a few examples of the weight that the United States had in Latin America during the Cold War. The contextualization of Latin America in the bipolar conflict will be the main objective, analyzing the factors that influenced the political and economic development of the region, from both, the internal and external point of view. The exogenous influences that conditioned the development of Latin America during the chronological period in which the thesis is framed will be the particular objectives, trying to find out what was the degree of influence of the USA and of the Member States of the European Community...
