Abstract

La obra apela a lectores interesados en enfoques artísticos innovadores, ofreciéndoles una exploración multidimensional del paisaje mediante la combinación de la fotografía con el análisis sociológico y técnico, reflejado a través de los datos. El libro incluye los primeros bocetos de los grabados originales del explorador Alexander von Humboldt (1769–1859), que inspiraron el proyecto, así como 31 láminas «info-fotográficas» presentadas como impactantes trípticos. Estas incluyen la primera serie, On the Geography of Green, realizada entre 2016 y 2022 en autocines abandonados de Texas, Arkansas y Luisiana, donde Moreno explora el paisaje desde una perspectiva descolonizada e informada por el género. Asimismo, se presentan otras series en las que la metodología se aplica a distintos contextos y temáticas: On the Geography of Red (un estudio de las colecciones de los museos españoles desde una perspectiva de género), On the Geography of the River y On the Geography of Chutculucene (investigaciones sobre la producción de conocimiento y capital en el paisaje desde una perspectiva postantropocéntrica). On the Geography of Green [&] es el resultado editorial de un proyecto de investigación-creación que fusiona el libro de artista con el catálogo expositivo, generando un objeto que funciona simultáneamente como detonador conceptual y como reproducción fiel de las obras presentadas en las exposiciones del proyecto On the Geography. Los pliegos reproducen con precisión las obras monumentales exhibidas en las salas, produciendo un desplazamiento del libro de exploración hacia el catálogo de exposición. Este desafío editorial implicó mantener la legibilidad de los datos a un tamaño de miniatura preciosista —resultado del escalado sin alteración de las piezas— y desarrollar un método de encuadernación contemporáneo y único que permitió producir una edición con una gran cantidad de planos plegados sin recurrir a la encuadernación manual. El libro ha sido distinguido por su calidad conceptual y por sus innovaciones técnicas en el ámbito de la producción editorial, recibiendo, entre otros reconocimientos, el Premio Ankaria de Fotografía del siglo XXI, el Premio al Mejor Libro de Fotografía del Año en la categoría Bibliofilia de PHotoESPAÑA (2024) y la Mención Especial en la categoría The Author Book Award de ARLES Les Rencontres de la Photographie (2024).

The book includes the earliest sketches of the original engravings by the explorer Alexander von Humboldt (1769–1859), which inspired the project, along with 31 “info-photographic” plates presented as striking triptychs. These include the first series, On the Geography of Green, produced between 2016 and 2022 at abandoned drive-in cinemas in Texas, Arkansas, and Louisiana, where Moreno explores landscape from a decolonized and gender-informed perspective. The book also presents other series in which the methodology is applied to different contexts and themes: On the Geography of Red (a study of Spanish museum collections from a gender perspective), On the Geography of the River, and On the Geography of Chutculucene (investigations into the production of knowledge and capital in the landscape from a post-anthropocentric perspective). On the Geography of Green [&] is the editorial outcome of a research-creation project that merges the artist’s book with the exhibition catalogue, generating an object that functions simultaneously as a conceptual trigger and as a faithful reproduction of the works presented in the exhibitions of the On the Geography project. The folded sheets accurately reproduce the monumental works shown in the exhibition spaces, producing a shift from the exploratory book toward the exhibition catalogue. This editorial challenge required maintaining the legibility of the data at a precious miniature scale—resulting from the unaltered scaling of the works—and developing a unique contemporary binding method that made it possible to produce an edition with a large number of folded plates without resorting to manual binding. The book has been recognized for its conceptual quality and for its technical innovations in the field of editorial production, receiving, among other distinctions, the Ankaria Prize for 21st Century Photography, the Award for Best Photography Book of the Year in the Bibliophilia category at PHotoESPAÑA (2024), and a Special Mention in the The Author Book Award category at ARLES Les Rencontres de la Photographie (2024).

L’ouvrage s’adresse à des lecteurs intéressés par des approches artistiques innovantes, en leur proposant une exploration multidimensionnelle du paysage à travers la combinaison de la photographie avec une analyse sociologique et technique, articulée par les données. Le livre comprend les premiers croquis des gravures originales de l’explorateur Alexander von Humboldt (1769–1859), qui ont inspiré le projet, ainsi que 31 planches « info-photographiques » présentées sous forme de triptyques percutants. Celles-ci incluent la première série, On the Geography of Green, réalisée entre 2016 et 2022 dans des cinémas drive-in abandonnés du Texas, de l’Arkansas et de la Louisiane, où Moreno explore le paysage depuis une perspective décolonisée et informée par le genre. Darunter die erste Serie On the Geography of Green, entstanden zwischen 2016 und 2022 in verlassenen Drive-ins in Texas, Arkansas und Louisiana, in der Moreno die Landschaft aus einer dekolonisierten und genderbewussten Perspektive untersucht. Weitere Serien wenden die Methodik auf unterschiedliche Kontexte und Themen an: On the Geography of Red (eine geschlechterkritische Studie der Sammlungen spanischer Museen), On the Geography of the River sowie On the Geography of Chutculucene (Untersuchungen zur Wissens- und Kapitalproduktion in der Landschaft aus postanthropozentrischer Perspektive). On the Geography of Green [&] ist das Ergebnis eines Forschungs- und Kreativprojekts, das Künstlerbuch und Ausstellungskatalog vereint und ein Objekt schafft, das zugleich als konzeptioneller Impulsgeber und als präzise Reproduktion der in den Ausstellungen des Projekts On the Geography präsentierten Werke fungiert. Die großformatigen Platten reproduzieren die monumentalen Arbeiten detailgetreu und verschieben so die Lektüre des explorativen Buches hin zu einem Ausstellungskatalog. Jahrhunderts, dem Preis für das beste Fotobuch des Jahres in der Kategorie Bibliophilie von PHotoESPAÑA (2024) sowie einer Sonderauszeichnung in der Kategorie The Author Book Award bei ARLES Les Rencontres de la Photographie (2024).
