Abstract
In the context of increasing presence in our social life, we can still observe a certain academic omission about comics as a form of art and communication. This article aims to contribute to the methodological discussion in the hermeneutics of comics through three distinct stages: a brief exposition of the different trends in the study of comics and comic books in general; a detailed critical exposition of the different interpretive forms used so far for the analysis of superhero comic books; and a possible methodological proposal for the critical analysis, that here we have come to denominate “critical-material genealogy”, that solves the impasse to which these methodologies have arrived by articulating the uniqueness of the work with the conditions of its occurrence.
