Psicoanálisis y Modernismo Literario: El sujeto moderno a través de The Waste Land (1922)

Abstract

Este proyecto de investigación pretende conjugar desde una perspectiva histórica el psicoanálisis y el movimiento modernista en la literatura, así como el impacto de la teoría freudiana en la técnica y temática del modelo literario. Como base de la investigación, se empleará una de las obras más importantes representativas del siglo XX: The Waste Land de T.S Eliot, una pieza artística de alta calidad y complejidad. Este poema permite acceder al malestar cultural y civilizatorio de una época y, al mismo tiempo, es un ejemplo vanguardista que consigue mostrar la fragmentación e incapacidad del sujeto moderno; un sujeto que se coloca en el centro de las reflexiones filosóficas de la época.

The aim of this research project is to relate from a historical perspective the psychoanalytical discipline and the Modern literature, and reflect on the impact of the Freudian theory on this literary movement’s technique. The analysis will mainly focus on one of the most influential works in the 20th century: T. S. Eliot’s The Waste Land, a high quality and complexity piece of art. This poem allows us to immerse ourselves in the cultural discontent of an age and, at the same time, it is an avant-garde example that manages to express the fragmentation and inability of the modern subject: a subject that positions itself in the centre of the philosophical thoughts.
