Abstract
La sedación permite reducir la ansiedad de los perros y facilitar su manejo en procedimientos que requieren inmovilidad o resulten dolorosos. La combinación de fármacos con diferentes propiedades permite reducir sus dosis, aprovechando efectos sinérgicos o aditivos. Por ello, la combinación de un agonista de los receptores adrenérgicos alfa-2 (dexmedetomidina) y un opioide (metadona), es habitual en perros. Sin embargo, esta combinación puede ocasionar depresión cardiovascular dependiente de la dosis. Nuestra hipótesis planteó que la adición de otros fármacos sedantes o anestésicos podría potenciar los efectos sedantes y analgésicos de la combinación de metadona con una dosis baja de dexmedetomidina en el perro. Sedation in dogs is a common procedure in clinical practice that reduces anxiety in animals. It facilitates their handling when procedures that require certain degree of immobility or may be painful are carried out. Usually, when a combination of drugs with different properties is administered, synergistic or additive effects may occur, allowing the use of low doses. The combination of an alpha-2 adrenergic receptor agonists such as dexmedetomidine, and an opioid such as methadone, is commonly used in dogs to produce sedation. However, this combination may cause significant dose-dependent cardiovascular depression.
