Factores maternos y ambientales que determinan la productividad de ovejas lecheras en sistemas intensivos

Abstract

En ovino lechero, una mayor rentabilidad viene determinada por un alto nivel de producción con menor coste y distribución uniforme durante el año, que asegura la disponibilidad de leche en épocas de menor oferta y mayor precio y permite distribuir homogéneamente la carga de trabajo anual. Estos factores sólo pueden ser optimizados mediante sistemas de gestión y manejo más intensivos, que implican empleo de razas altamente productivas, aumento del censo de animales por granja, mejora de instalaciones, ordeño mecanizado, destete precoz y lactancia artificial, y contratación de personal cualificado.Especial mención merece el manejo reproductivo del rebaño, encaminado a optimizar la precocidad, fertilidad y número de partos por oveja y año; la consecución de estos objetivos permite reducir al máximo el número de días improductivos de cada oveja y asegurar una relación favorable entre nivel y coste de producción. El siguiente objetivo que permite elevar la rentabilidad de la granja es la distribución de la producción a lo largo del año mediante un ritmo reproductivo más intensivo (más parideras/año), pero evitando consecuencias negativas sobre el bienestar y la salud de los animales. In dairy sheep, a greater profitability can be achieved by a higher level of production and/or lower costs and/or a more even distribution of production during the year. This later point ensures the availability of milk during periods of lower supply (higher price) and allows to distribute homogeneously the annual workload. These factors can be optimized through a more intensive management, which involves the employment of highly productive breeds, the increase of the size of the flock, the improvement of facilities, the mechanized milking, the early weaning and artificial lactation, and the recruitment of qualified personnel at the farms.Especially relevant is the reproductive management, aiming at optimizing precocity, fertility and number of lambings per sheep and year. These objectives reduce the number of nonproductive days of each sheep and assure a favorable balance between production and costs of production. Another objective that allows the profitability to grow is the more even distribution of the production throughout the year. This can be achieved through a more intensive reproductive rhythm (more lambing-groups per year) but avoiding possible negative consequences on welfare and health of the animals.
