La amarga derrota de Mayo: límites de la lectura liberal del 68

Abstract

Este capítulo examina los límites de la interpretación liberal de Mayo del 68, que lo presenta como el origen de una modernización cultural y política funcional al capitalismo neoliberal. A partir de interpretaciones dispares como las de Raymond Aron, Régis Debray, Daniel Bensaïd, Gilles Lipovetsky o André Glucksmann, se reconstruye la genealogía de esta lectura que, pese a su difusión hegemónica, reduce el acontecimiento a una revuelta de costumbres y olvida su núcleo anticapitalista. Frente a esta visión, el texto subraya la necesidad de comprender el 68 en su doble dimensión de crítica social y crítica artista, vinculando las luchas obreras y estudiantiles, así como su inserción en una historia más amplia de contestación global. El argumento concluye que el neoliberalismo no puede entenderse como la consumación del 68, sino como su derrota, al neutralizar y reabsorber las aspiraciones emancipadoras que entonces emergieron.

This chapter examines the limits of the liberal interpretation of May '68, which presents it as the origin of a cultural and political modernization that serves neoliberal capitalism. Starting from diverse points of view such as those of Raymond Aron, Régis Debray, Daniel Bensaïd, Gilles Lipovetsky, and André Glucksmann, the genealogy of this interpretation is reconstructed, which, despite its hegemonic dissemination, reduces the event to a revolt of customs and overlooks its anti-capitalist core. In contrast to this view, the text emphasizes the need to understand '68 in its dual dimension of social and artistic criticism, linking the struggles of workers and students, as well as their insertion into a broader history of global protest. The argument concludes that neoliberalism cannot be understood as the consummation of '68, but rather as its defeat, by neutralizing and reabsorbing the emancipatory aspirations that emerged at that time.
