La influencia del ferrocarril en el crecimiento urbano: el caso de Colmenar Viejo (Madrid)

Abstract

Este Trabajo está dedicado, en general, al crecimiento experimentado en el último siglo por un núcleo urbano del Área Metropolitana de Madrid –Colmenar Viejo-, y, en particular, a la influencia que ha ejercido el ferrocarril sobre dicho crecimiento. Para su desarrollo, se emplea cartografía generada mediante diversas tecnologías de la información geográfica –topografía clásica, fotogrametría y teledetección- que es tratada mediante dos sistemas de información geográfica distintos. Las conclusiones extraídas son, en primer lugar, que el crecimiento de Colmenar Viejo ha sido constante, ha registrado aumentos exponenciales, y ha seguido pautas similares a otros municipios españoles afectados por procesos metropolitanos. En segundo lugar, se concluye que el ferrocarril ha tenido una influencia desigual en función de las características del servicio ferroviario ofrecido. Por último, se plantea que el estudio sea profundizado en una futura Tesis Doctoral.

[ABSTRACT] The influence of railroads on urban growth: the case of Colmenar Viejo / Madrid (Spain). This paper deals, on the one hand, with the urban growth registered during the last century at a town located in the outskirts of Madrid (Colmenar Viejo), and, on the other hand, with the influence that the railway system has had on this growth. In order to carry out this project, several maps and images created using different geographical information techniques –topography, photogrammetry and remote sensing- are used, and two different geographical information systems are applied. This paper concludes, first of all, that the urban growth in Colmenar Viejo has been steady, has registered exponential increases, and has followed similar patterns to other Spanish towns influenced by metropolitan processes. The second conclusion is that the railway system has been uneven in determining urban growth, depending on the railway service offered. Lastly, the content of this project will be treated in greater depth in a future PhD Thesis.

[ZUSAMMENFASSUNG] Der Einfluss der Eisenbahn auf städtisches Wachstum am Beispiel von Colmenar Viejo / Madrid (Spanien). Mit der vorliegenden Arbeit soll das urbane Wachstum von Colmenar Viejo, einem Vorort von Madrid, im letzten Jahrhundert analysiert werden. Dabei soll besonders auf den Einfluss der Eisenbahnanbindung auf diesem Wachstum eingegangen werden. Für die Arbeit werden verschiedene geographische Informationen bearbeitet - Topographische Karten, Photogrammetrie und Fernerkundung-. Hierbei kommen zwei unterschiedliche Geographischen Informationssysteme zur Anwendung. Die erste Schlußfolgerung der Arbeit ist, dass das Wachstum in Colmenar Viejo stabil gewesen ist, exponentiell zugenommen hat und es ähnliche Muster aufweist wie andere spanische Städte in metropolitanen Räumen. Die zweite Schlussfolgerung ist, dass die Eisenbahnanbindung einen ungleichmäßigen Einfluss auf das städtische Wachstum hat, abhängig davon welcher Eisenbahn-Service angeboten wird. Es ist geplant, das Thema in einer zukünftigen Doktorarbeit zu vertiefen.
