Ortografía y Política en el Liberalismo Español. La X de los Luxanes de Casturera

Abstract

El estudio del empleo de la x en Luxán como grafema del fonema velar fricativo sordo, amplía la información sobre la recepción en el espacio público y en el ámbito privado de las reglas ortográficas en el siglo XIX, así como sobre la interacción entre lengua y política. La resistencia de la x en los Luxanes de Castuera es una constante en el ámbito privado mientras que en el espacio público, su uso se debilitará, y luego reaparecer, disociado de la ortografía oficial, vinculado a la proyección científica, literaria, social y política de sus protagonistas. Se presenta primero el marco lingüístico, que tiene en cuenta la evolución del sistema fonológico del castellano, la confusión de g (ge, gi), j, x, así como las relaciones entre x y j. En segundo lugar, se recoge la excepción de Luxán desde la ilustración a la revolución liberal. Por último, se destaca la resistencia de la x en el primer liberalismo, y su consolidación en el espacio público

The study of the use of X in Luxán, as a grapheme of voiceless velar fricative phoneme. Extends the information about the reception in the public space in the private sphere of orthographic rules in the 19th century, as well as about language and politics interaction. The resistance of the “x” in the Luxanes from Castuera is a constant in the private sphere while in the public space, its use will be weakened, and reappear, dissociated from the official orthography, linked to the scientific, literary, social and political projection of its protagonists. The linguistic framework is presented first, which takes into account the evolution of the phonological system of Spanish, the confusion of g (ge, gi), j, x, as well as the relations between x and j. Secondly, Luxán’s exception is taken from the enlightenment to the liberal revolution. Finally, the resistance of the x in the first liberalism, and its consolidation in the public space are highlighted.
