Abstract
ABSTRACT: Starting with Plutarch’s description of when the radiant Cleopatra in her gilded barge meets an astonished Mark Antony, this study considers how the incident was handed down and altered on the seventeenth-century stage, as well as the function the episode acquired in the "inventio" and "dispositio" of the different playwrights.
