El jardín en la ciudad. Prácticas artísticas en pro de la naturaleza

Abstract

Las grandes ciudades se han convertido en territorios casi hostiles con ritmos frenéticos. Sin embargo, hay espacios que contrastan en las estructuras de las urbes: los jardines. Entre tantas calles, edificios y coches, los parques urbanos ocupan espacios privilegiados que suponen un alivio para los ciudadanos deseosos de naturaleza. Sin embargo, ¿qué hay de “natural” en eso? Al final, estos lugares son diseños artificiales pensados para ocupar ese espacio en la ciudad y se acaban convirtiendo en una “extensión verde” de las ciudades. La masificación, la explotación del medio y el consumismo que dañan el estado actual del planeta también han calado en los jardines. A pesar de ello, todavía sería posible conseguir un cambio real y hay teorías y prácticas artísticas que pretenden averiguar cómo. Este estudio propone comprender las circunstancias de los jardines urbanos, cómo han cambiado sus circunstancias y ver modos de mejora de los espacios verdes en las ciudades. Entender la importancia de la presencia de la naturaleza en la ciudad y su valor para la gente.

The big cities have become almost hostile territories with frenetic rhythms. There are spaces that contrast with the structures of the cities: the gardens. Among so many streets, buildings and cars, urban parks occupy privileged spaces that are a relief for citizens willing for nature. However, what is “natural” about that? At the end, these places are artificial designs though to occupy that place in the city and end up becoming a “green extension” of cities. The overcrowding, the exploitation of the environment and the consumerism that harm the current state of the planet have also reached out the gardens. Despite this, it would be still possible to achieve a real change, and there are theories and artistic practices that mean to find out how. This study aims to understand the circumstances of urban gardens, how their circumstances have changed and to see ways of improving the green spaces in cities. To understand the importance of the presence of nature in the city and its value for people.
