Abstract
ABSTRACT: This article presents a complete analysis of the auto sacramental signed by Lope de Vega and entitled «La adúltera perdonada» (c. 1608-1612). This study has been developed from different angles and, to this end, attention has been focused on the different parts that are involved in the construction of the dramatic text. Various analyses of specific aspects present in the auto have been recovered and completed, such as the importance of music (Alín, 1983 and Flórez Asensio, 2012), the reminiscences of traditional romances and songs (Nogués Bruno, 2017) or the problem of honour (Duarte, 2017). The usefulness of this work lies in its global character, as it explores aspects that have received less attention, for example, the similarities and differences between Lope de Vegaʼs auto and its main source, the biblical pericope of the «Gospel of John» —a controversial text that has been discredited by various authors— or the characterisation of their interlocutors. It has also offered an innovative exploration of an as yet unprecedented question, the morality of the protagonistʼs final behaviour and the importance of the adulteressʼs absolution in both texts.
