Abstract
Understanding revisionism has been one of the major problems facing the literature in International Relations since practically its origins as a science. A term for which there is no agreed definition in academia, yet which forms part of some of the most important theoretical models in our discipline, poses a serious danger to its theoretical development. The justification for this research responds to the relevance of the dynamics of interstate change discussed when talking about revisionism and its progressive penetration into public discourse as a stigmatising label. On this basis, it was considered necessary to carry out a doctoral dissertation that correctly addresses revisionism on a theoretical level and within the realist research programme, due to its hegemonic position, in order to understand its role in international society.Summary: The general objective of this doctoral dissertation is to understand the treatment given to revisionism in the theoretical literature of International Relations and, in particular, in the realist programme. To this end, four specific objectives were designed: (1) to construct a broad theoretical framework to situate revisionism, (2) to understand revisionism in Classical Realism, (3) to deconstruct the concept of revisionism in the realist programme and (4) to reconstruct revisionism through a theoretical model. First, a theoretical framework was developed in chapters 1 and 2 from a micro-international perspective, focusing on the state and power, and from a macro-international perspective, based on the international society, stability, and hegemonic conflicts...
