Abstract
This research addresses the absence of women writers from the Spanish-American avant-garde canon by studying the specific cases of the Uruguayan Blanca Luz Brum (1905-1985), the Peruvian Magda Portal (1900-1989), the Argentinean María Luisa Carnelli (1898-1987) and the Chilean Winétt de Rokha (1894-1951). With the objective of fracturing the almost exclusively male canon of avant-garde writers and including the female authors of the corpus, this thesis intends to analyze their avant-garde proposals and question the androcentric mechanisms that constitute literary history. The thesis approaches the complex relationship between female writers and the Spanish-American avant-garde from an interdisciplinary methodology that combines intellectual history, feminist literary criticism, and theory about the Spanish-American political avant-garde. This multiple perspective forms a structure divided into four different blocks –one for each writer– and these, in turn, are made up of three chapters with similar questions...
