Abstract
Recorrido por la representación iconográfica del primer capítulo del "Quijote", en que se representa a Alonso Quijano leyendo libros de caballerías, desde sus primeras representaciones hasta el modelo mítico de Gustave Doré en 1863. Este recorrido permite conocer cómo se ha ido construyendo una imagen iconográfica mítica alrededor de la lectura, y de la importancia de las letras en la configuración del personaje de don Quijote y de la obra universal de Cervantes.
A journey through the iconographic representation of the first chapter of Don Quixote, in which Alonso Quijano is represented reading books of chivalry, from his first representations to the mythical model of Gustave Doré in 1863. This journey allows us to know how a mythical iconographic image has been constructed around reading, and the importance of letters in the configuration of the character of Don Quixote and the universal work of Cervantes.
