Abstract
Nos encontramos sin ningún género de dudas con uno de los artistas más singulares y peculiares que ha dado el arte español de finales del siglo XX. Premio Nacional de Artes Plásticas y Premio Nacional Gráfico. Muchos críticos, historiadores y analistas artísticos han intentado definir la obra de José Hernández utilizando definiciones muy diversas: surrealismo,realismo mágico, simbolismo, realismo... Su obra cargada de unos significados muy concretos lleva implícito mensajes de denuncia, de lo absurdo de instituciones, convenciones religiosas y restricciones políticas pero también y simplemente el desvelar un mundo soñado desconocido.Artista que convive continuamente en una realidad sobrenatural, fantasiosa y a su vez soñada.Una fantasía inventada a través de un comportamiento creativo que no tiene parangón en el arte español del último tercio del siglo XX y que desvela una búsqueda honesta y sincera de identificar su arte con la realidad y consigo mismo.La obra de José Hernández lejos de huir o escapar, busca la simplicidad y al mismo tiempo la exactitud y el rigor. Sus imágenes se nutren de una sugestión de textura inconfundible ofreciendo múltiples combinaciones con elementos arquitectónicos de ingenio perspectivo y poética sublime de las emociones, demostrando así un ejercicio libertad creativa unido al respeto e influencia directa por la tradición arquitectónica clásica. La presencia misma de materia orgánica y elementos arquitectónicos descontextualizados hacen de la obra de Hernández un mundo metamórfico inquietante y sobrecogedor.Arte, Imaginación y Realidad, transitan en José Hernández; artista sorprendente e inspirador,tradicional y contemporáneo del siglo XX.
The figure of Jose Hernandez is undisputably one of the most relevant ones amongst theSpanish artistic panorama in the late 20th century. He was the recipient of the National Awardof Art, and National Award for Graphic Art. Many critics, historians and art reviewers havetried to define his work using different labels which range from surrealism to magical realism,symbolism and realism. The artistic production of Jose Hernandez is laden with very specificmeanings which imply the denunciation of absurd institutions, religious convention and politicalrestrictions, but it also consists of revealing a dreamed universe of the unknown. Thisartist inhabits a supranatural reality, fantastic and dreamy, a world invented through his creativebehaviour which has no parallel in Spanish art produced in the last third of the 20th century. Itshows an honest and sincere search for a way to identify his art with reality and with himself.The work of Jose Hernandez looks for simplicity rather than trying to flee,and at the same time looks for careful accuracy. His images feed on a suggested texturewhich is unmistakable, which offers multiple combinations of architectonic elementswith marvelous perspective and sublime poetry of emotions, therefore becomingan exercise of creative freedom which is both indebted to and respectful of classicalarchitectural tradition. The very presence of organic matter and architectural elements outof context make Hernandez´s work a troubling and daunting metaphorical universe.Art, Imagination and Reality are components of the art of Jose Hernandez,a surprising and inspiring,traditiona and contemporary artist of the 20th century.
