Abstract
In the first place, this paper offers the results from the analysis of the lineal version of “Youngsters facing Climate change (YFCC)”, a documentary produced in 2012 inside the media literacy multiplattform project with the same name. Afterwards, these results are compared with the results of the analysis over a full year of tv news about climate change (CC) done by Teso (2016). The same protocol for the content analisys and the same variables for the narrative analysis were applied in both cases. The results show the influence of the profesional routines in the production of the discourse regarding CC in both cases. In relation to the content, tv news reports focus on CC impacts and institutional projects such as solution to the problem. While, YFCC focusses on the causes of CC and adaptation´s measures. Scientists, technical experts on CC and politicians are the main characters in the tv news, while the story of YFCC includes young experts, activists and people affected (fishermen & farmers) as main characters, leaving the politicians out of the main documentary. On the other hand, the tv discourse leaves the youngsters out of the news. In opposition, the authors of YFCC made the decision to conclude their documentary with a tribute to the rural people´s wisdom and to the previous generations away from consumerism. The young authors have a critical attitude towards the consumer society and the lack of information about CC in the tv, but both representations of CC, news and YFCC, show the same gap in coverage: the multinational companies and their leaders are not visibles, out of the public eye.
