El papel de los catalizadores externos en la estrategia transnacional de incorporación de los países hispanohablantes a la International Woman Suffrage Alliance (1918-1920)

Abstract

Este artículo analiza la campaña de captación de asociaciones sufragistas de los países hispanohablantes por parte de la International Woman Suffrage Alliance (IWSA), entre 1918 y 1920. Se hace hincapié en el rol jugado por el matrimonio Ruffin como catalizadores externos, un tipo de recursos para la acción colectiva que aquí se conceptualiza. Su papel ha sido pasado por alto en las investigaciones sobre la IWSA, a pesar de su importancia para la articulación de redes transnacionales sufragistas. El artículo valora el resultado obtenido en 1920, con la incorporación de Argentina, Uruguay y España a la IWSA.

This article analyses the campaign by the International Woman Suffrage Alliance (IWSA) to incorporate suffragist associations from Spanish-speaking countries between 1918 and 1920. It highlights the role played by the Ruffins as external facilitators. This term describes a specific type of resource for collective action and is conceptualized within the article. Although they were essential in establishing transnational suffragist networks, the Ruffins’ role has been overlooked by the literature on the IWSA. Also assessed are the results achieved in 1920 through the incorporation of Argentina, Uruguay and Spain into the IWSA.
