Abstract
‘pozo’.
ABSTRACT: Among the Hittite words used to denote ‘fountain’ or ‘spring’ there are two terms, wattaru- and luli(ya)-, for which certain dictionaries also include the meaning ‘well’. However, there is no well in the Hittite archaeological record. Using both the information provided by the Archaeology and the study of the contexts of these terms, the present paper has two main aims. First, to analyse all Hittite terms that refer to ‘fountain’ or ‘spring’ in order to disambiguate them and second, to focus on both wattaru- and luli(ya)- for clearing their meanings but above all for establishing that they cannot mean ‘well’.] Keywords: Hittite, spring, fountain, well.
