Abstract
Estudiantes entre 15 y 18 años de los colegios de las islas San Cristóbal y Santa Cruz (Galápagos, Ecuador) realizan actividades de monitoreo e investigación de las Tortugas Gigantes endémicas durante 4 días de campamento. La experiencia queda integrada bajo un modelo constructivista de aprendizaje basado en la indagación y utiliza la ciencia aplicada a la investigación de campo para ayudar a los estudiantes a desarrollar competencias básicas de alfabetización ambiental y científica. Los participantes adquieren conocimientos sobre la ecología de las islas Galápagos y desarrollan habilidades, disposiciones y prácticas favorables hacia la conservación de este Patrimonio Natural de la Humanidad. Mediante una prueba de pretest y postest se miden los conocimientos y actitudes de partida de los jóvenes y se analizan las diferencias tras su paso por el programa observándose que existen ganancias notorias.
Students between 15 and 18 years of age from the schools of San Cristobal and Santa Cruz Islands (Galapagos, Ecuador) carry out monitoring and research activities of endemic giant tortoises during 4 days of camping. The experience is integrated under a constructivist learning model based on inquiry and uses applied science to field research to help students develop basic environmental and scientific literacy skills. The participants acquire knowledge about the ecology of the Galapagos Islands and develop skills, dispositions and favorable practices towards the conservation of this Natural Heritage of Humanity. Through a pre-test and post-test the knowledge and starting attitudes of young people are measured and the differences are analyzed after passing through the program observing that there are notorious gains.
