Es una enfermedad estrechamente ligada al envejecimiento, así como a otros factores como el sexo o los determinantes socioeconómicos. En la última década, la introducción del implante de válvula aórtica transcatéter (TAVI) ha revolucionado el tratamiento de esta enfermedad, sobre todo entre la población de mayor edad.
