Abstract
This paper analyzes the way in wich Lope de Vega combines up to four different dramatic space levels when writing his comedia entitled "Santiago el Verde" (1615). One of these spaces the playwright plays with is the city of Madrid itself, the city that actually contains the playhoyse where the performance is taking place and that, at the same time, it is being reproduced in it. This device generates a stimulating and a evocative effect in a historical time when the theatre spectator and the city itself are defining their identities by molding each other.
