La política económica de Tiberio: efectividad y repercusión en la historia imperial

Abstract

El gobierno del emperador Tiberio ha permanecido enmascarado por la visión negativa que construyeron las fuentes literarias. Actualmente la historiografía, desde una perspectiva económica, ha intentado rescatar su principado de estas connotaciones peyorativas y lo ha mostrado como un gobernante cuyas medidas financieras, exitosas y efectivas, consiguieron hacer frente a los desequilibrios económicos y generar un superávit financiero que permitió la supervivencia del Imperio Romano. Sin embargo, ambas perspectivas negativas y positivas nos alejan de la realidad histórica de su mandato. Sus medidas económicas y la propia lesa majestad no tuvieron como objetivos exclusivos la recaudación y el ámbito financiero, ya que los aspectos políticos, sociales, morales e ideológicos estuvieron patentes. Por otro lado, la efectividad económica es evidente, pero muchas de sus acciones provocaron grandes dificultades tanto a nivel político como social, elementos que nos alejarían del discurso del "éxito total" de sus políticas. No obstante, su efectividad económica es demostrable y, por ello, se hacen patentes una serie de perviviencias en las prácticas económicas de Tiberio entre los sucesores imperiales. El interés financiero y recaudativo es evidente, pero no por ello podemos desestimar otro tipo de aspectos, ya que con ello entenderemos sus políticas, comprobaremos si su efectividad fue real y si de verdad existió una repercusión entre los gobiernos que sucedieron al ilustre y controvertido Tiberio Claudio Nerón.

The government of Emperor Tiberius has remained masked by the negative vision that the literary sources constructed. Currently, historiography, from an economic perspective, has tried to rescue his principality from these pejorative connotations and has shown him as a ruler whose financial measures, successful and effective, managed to face economic imbalances and generate a financial surplus that allowed the survival of the Roman empire. However, both negative and positive perspectives take us away from the historical reality of his mandate. His economic measures and the lese majesty itself did not have as exclusive objectives the collection and the financial sphere, since the political, social, moral and ideological aspects were evident. On the other hand, the economic effectiveness is evident, but many of their actions caused great difficulties both at the political and social level, elements that would distance us from the discourse of the "total success" of their policies. However, its economic effectiveness is demonstrable and, therefore, a series of survivals in the economic practices of Tiberius among the imperial successors are evident. The financial and collection interest is evident, but for this reason we cannot dismiss other types of aspects, since with this we will understand their policies, we will check if their effectiveness was real and if there really was an impact between the governments that succeeded the illustrious and controversial Tiberius Claudius Nero.
