Re-enacting History. A New Dimension for the Knowledge Transfer in Spain

Abstract

The comprehension and interpretation of historical-archaeological heritage is problematic due to the fact that primary sources, evidence or remains are usually fragmentary, partial or remain decontextualised with respect to their original configuration that they had in other times. The past cannot be observed directly, as it was, in this sense it is abstract and we can only approximate, hypothesise or imagine its ancient reality. Historical re-enactment is a phenomenon that has become enormously important and popular in recent decades. It is a re-enactment activity directly related to the dissemination of History whose aim is to evoke, with the greatest possible degree of historical accuracy in the narrative, the material culture of a specific moment in the past, focusing on the accuracy of the costume and the material that complements the representation.
