La "República de los suizos" de Josia Simler (1576). "Corpus civitatis" helvético y léxico federal en la modernidad temprana

Abstract

La Confederación Helvética, que surge en el siglo XIII, fue bastión republicano entre monarquías absolutas, potencia militar clave en los siglos XVI y XVII y objeto de la reflexión de pensadores como Bodin, Althusius o Simler. La experiencia confederal helvética en la Modernidad incipiente tuvo importancia para la historia de las ideas políticas y del léxico federal moderno. La República de los Suizos, tal cual la definió Josia Simler supuso un camino alternativo al de la concentración de potestades en manos de un soberano único. Simler y la tradición helvética se presentan en este sentido como hito equidistante entre la Antigüedad y la Modernidad políticas, eslabón con el que más de un cuarto de siglo después engarzarán Grotius o Althusius para marcar distancias con el absolutismo hegemónico en el siglo XVII.

The Swiss Confederation, which arose in the 18th Century, was a Republican bastion among absolute monarchies, military power in the 16th and 17th Centuries and object of reflection carried out by thinkers such as Bodin, Althusius or Simler. The Swiss Confederation experience at the beginning of Modernity was relevant for the history of political ideas and of the Modern federal lexicon. The Swiss Republic, as Josia Simler defined it, presented an alternative path to that of the concentration of power in a single sovereign. Simler and the Swiss tradition are introduced as an equidistant milestone between the politics in the Ancient Times and in Modernity, link that Grotius or Althusius, more than a quarter of a Century will resume so as to make a difference with the hegemonic absolutism in the 17th Century.
