Abstract
We describe the optical design of MEGARA, the future optical Integral Field Unit (IFU) and Multi-Object Spectrograph (MOS) for the 10.4-m Gran Telescopio CANARIAS (GTC). MEGARA is being built by a Consortium of public research institutions led by the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM, Spain) that also includes INAOE (Mexico), IAA-CSIC (Spain) and UPM (Spain).
Description
© 2012 SPIE. Conference on Optical Systems Design (2012. Barcelona, Spain). MEGARA is being funded by GRANTECAN, public entity responsible for the management and operation of GTC. The sliced-pupil grating design efforts are part of a collaborative project between the SME FRACTAL and the UCM. The first prototype received funds from the Madrid Regional Government (CAM) through grant 22/2009 for Aero-spatial Innovation. The development of this concept for large telescopes (VIENTOS project) has been co-funded by CDTI (Development and Industrial Transfer Center; Ministry of Economy and Competiveness, Spain) under the Industry for Science program IdC-20101106. The authors thank also the support received from the Consolider-Ingenio 2010 Program grant CSD2006-00070 "First Science with the GTC" and the Spanish National Plan for Astronomy & Astrophysics grant AyA2009-10368. The LICA-UCM laboratory is funded by the Moncloa "Campus de Excelencia Internacional".
