Errancia y estructuras de poder. La construcción del imaginario andino en Ricardo Palma y Abraham Valdelomar

Abstract

La noción filosófica y filológica de “errancia”, por su propia cualidad para captarlo que está en movimiento, emerge como una herramienta útil de aproximación al periodo formativo peruano desde una literatura ansiosa por asir un medio profundamente heterogéneo, culturalmente disperso y políticamente fragmentado. Ricardo Palma y Abraham Valdelomar, dos de los escritores peruanos más implicados en la edificación de un proyecto de nación a través de una escritura totalizadora y multiforme, representan testimonios sucesivos e interconectados de aquel dinamismo impulsado por la necesidad de las élites letradas de circunscribir el dentro/fuera de la patria en una época atravesada por el desconcierto político, económico y social. De ese modo, en la presente tesis, que lleva por título Errancia y estructuras de poder. La construcción del imaginario andino en Ricardo Palma y Abraham Valdelomar, analizamos cómo sus personajes alejados por voluntad o imposición del centro de poder hacen las veces de guías por una parte fundamental de los itinerarios nacionalistas de ambos autores: la construcción de un espacio simbólico de existencia para el sujeto indígena, el gran “errante” de la patria peruana entre los siglos XIX y XX...

The philosophical and philological notion of “wandering”, due to its own quality of capturing what is in motion, emerges as a useful tool to approach the Peruvian formative period from a literature eager to grasp a deeply heterogeneous, culturally dispersed and politically fragmented environment. Ricardo Palma and Abraham Valdelomar, two of the Peruvian writers most involved in the construction of a national project through a totalizing and multiform writing, represent successive and interconnected testimonies of that dynamism driven by the need of the literate elites to circumscribe the inside/outside of the homeland at a time crossed by political, economicand social confusion. Thus, in this thesis, which is titled Wandering and power structures. The construction of an Andean imaginary in Ricardo Palma and Abraham Valdelomar, we analyze how their characters, removed by will or imposition from the center of power, act as guides through a fundamental part of the nationalist itineraries of both authors: the construction of a symbolic space of existence for the indigenous subject, the great “wanderer” of the Peruvian homeland between the 19th and 20th centuries...
