Anticuerpos monoclonales en el tratamiento del cáncer

Abstract

En la actualidad el cáncer es una patología muy prevalente, pero gracias al conocimiento de su biología se ha conseguido desarrollar nuevos fármacos, entre los que destacan los anticuerpos monoclonales (mabs). Estos son proteínas inmunitarias producidas por ingeniería genética, las cuales se van a unir a ciertas dianas presentes en la célula tumoral y van a provocar el reclutamiento de células inmunitarias lo que condicionará la destrucción del tumor. Nowadays cancer is a very prevalent pathology, thanks to the knowledge of its biology, It has been possible the development of new drugs, like monoclonals antibodies or mabs, that are immunity proteins produced by genetic engineering. Mabs not only can bind specifically to certain targets that are essential for tumoral development, but also can recruit the immune system of the own patient for fighting against the tumor. It can be used as monotherapy or within a combination of other drugs, depending on each case.
