dc.description.abstractEsta tesis tiene como objeto de estudio la política exterior de Arabia Saudí en Oriente Medio tras la primavera árabe y sus objetivos y estrategias regionales entre 2011-2016. Las movilizaciones y levantamientos populares ocurridos en 2011 y los conflictos posteriores suponen un punto de inflexión en el orden político de Oriente Medio. Todos los actores presentes en la zona están obligados a tener que adaptar sus estrategias de seguridad, defensa y acción regional a un contexto local diferente. El Estado saudita es uno de los actores centrales en Oriente Medio y la esfera musulmana. Desde hace décadas ocupa una posición hegemónica en las relaciones regionales. Sin embargo, su liderazgo político y religioso en el Golfo y el mundo árabe se está viendo amenazado por los efectos de las revueltas árabes y los cambios que están teniendo lugar.La tesis analiza varios aspectos: las características fundamentales de la política exterior saudita y el proceso de toma de decisiones del Gobierno; los efectos de la primavera árabe tanto dentro del país como sobre la hegemonía saudita en la región; las percepciones de amenazas y oportunidades de la familia real saudita ante los cambios en su entorno; el papel del Estado saudita en las principales crisis de Oriente Medio y, por último, la relación de la familia Saud con el resto de dirigentes de los países vecinos y su histórico aliado estadounidense...
dc.description.abstractThis thesis’ subject of study is the foreign policy of Saudi Arabia in the Middle East after the Arab Spring and its objectives and regional strategies during the period comprising 2011to 2016. The mobilizations and popular uprisings that took place in 2011 and the subsequent conflicts represent a turning point in the political order of the Middle East. All the actors present in the area are obliged to adapt their security, defense and regional action strategies to a different local context. The Saudi State is one of the central actors in the Middle East and the Muslim sphere. For decades, it has occupied a hegemonic position in regional relations. However, its political and religious leadership in the Gulf and the Arab world is being threatened by effects of the Arab revolts and the changes that are coming about.Several aspects are analyzed: the fundamental characteristics of the Saudi foreign policy and the decision-making process of the Government; the effects of the Arab spring both within the country and over Saudi hegemony in the region; the perceptions of threats and opportunities of the Saudi royal family in the face of transformations taking place in their milieu; the role of the Saudi state in the main crises that affected the Middle East; and, lastly, the relationship of the Saud family with the rest of the leaders of the neighboring countries and their long-standing American ally...
