Abstract
In this doctoral thesis, we aim to analyze the Syrian-Lebanese emigration from the Ottoman Empire to Argentina, between 1880-1920, from its local organization on the coasts of Syria and Mount Lebanon until its arrival on the Argentine coast and activity in that country. Although Syrian-Lebanese emigration to Argentina began in the 1860s, the intensification of this migratory flow had to wait until the mid-1880s. From then on, the immigrants left from the Syrian-Lebanese coasts, also making a stopover at some ports in the Eastern Mediterranean to receive more immigrants, and they arrived in some European cities, such as Genoa, Marseille, Barcelona, and Trieste, to embark on ocean liners and go to the countries of South America. In this sense, Argentina became the first destination for immigrants in the southern part of the continent, particularly at the beginning of the 20th century. These immigrants became a very large community in that country and developed particular relationships with the Ottoman Empire and the Argentine authorities, particularly after the establishment of the Ottoman General General Consulate in Buenos Aires...
