Abstract
Los periódicos llevan dos décadas sumidos en una profunda transformación tecnológica. Frente a lo que había ocurrido en ocasiones anteriores, esta vez los cambios han afectado a algunos de los pilares de estas empresas, como su modelo de negocio o las condiciones laborales y profesionales de los periodistas. La presente investigación aborda las causas y consecuencias de estos procesos digitalizadores en la prensa escrita, partiendo de una perspectiva general para, finalmente, contrastarla con un estudio de caso sobre El País. Para ello, hemos empleado técnicas de investigación mixtas. En concreto, la investigación empírica cualitativa ha sido fundamental, ya que se han realizado distintas entrevistas en profundidad con una docena de profesionales del sector que han trabajado o trabajan para El País, ilustrando así determinados puntos de la historia del periódico. Newspapers have been undergoing a deep technological transformation for the past two decades. Unlike previous occasions, these changes have affected some of the fundamental aspects of these companies, such as their business model or the working conditions and professional roles of journalists.
