Abstract
Nowadays, the request through email is widely used in academic communication within university teaching between students and professors. Since the request is an image-threatening competitive speech act, its nature is impolite, and there is a status imbalance in this type of context. To enhance the appropriate use of courtesy, reduce pragmatic errors, and promote successful intercultural communication requires sophisticated use of linguistic communication and greater pragmatic competence on the part of ELE/L2 students. In the present study, a descriptive and contrastive investigation of the request emails in the university context is presented, they are carried out by Spanish L1university students, Chinese L1 university students and Chinese students of Spanish as LE/L2 at an intermediate-advanced level (B1, B2 and C1). To carry out the analysis, a total of 120 university students have participated with a corpus of 360 samples produced during the academic years 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 at the Complutense University of Madrid, for whom we have designed a questionnaire in paper and digital format. The aim is to compare and explore the results through the analysis method adapted mainly from Robles Garrote (2017), Blum-Kulka, House and Kasper (1989). Specifically, the parameters for the analysis consist of the following four aspects: (1) the macrostructure of the email; (2) the type of request strategies; (3) internal and external modifications and (4) treatment formulas and perspectives...
