Abstract
El presente trabajo doctoral tiene por objeto analizar la evolución de la paideia en Egipto durante la Antigüedad tardía. The present doctoral thesis aims to analyse the evolution of paideia in Egypt during Late Antiquity. In particular, the study focuses on elementary education, that is, the stage situated between basic literacy and higher education, the latter understood as the range of advanced disciplines accessible after literary and grammatical instruction—philosophy, rhetoric, law, and others.During the centuries that make up Late Antiquity, the eastern Mediterranean was the setting for the expansion of Christianity and, towards its close, the emergence of Islam. Within this context, paideia, deeply rooted in the Greek literary tradition, became a subject of controversy among the new Christian intellectual elites, who regarded the pagan content of school texts as an obstacle to the consolidation of Christian values. The purpose of this thesis is to analyse the tangible manifestations of these tensions—and their gradual reformulation over the centuries—based on the available documentary evidence...
