La tricomonosis, ocasionada por el protozoo parásito Trichomonas vaginalis, representa la infección de transmisión sexual (ITS) no vírica más prevalente a nivel mundial, con más de 156 millones de casos anuales, una cifra que ha ido en aumento en los últimos años. A pesar de su alta prevalencia, la investigación sobre esta infección en España es limitada. La presentación clínica de la tricomonosis es altamente heterogénea y sus posibles complicaciones durante el embarazo son motivo de preocupación.
