Abstract

This essay is intended to be a critical investigation on the development of Henri Bergson's philosophy between 1889 and 1907. The guiding thread runs through the problem of the emergence of consciousness from a transcendental plane without subject such as it is approached in the first chapter of Matière et mémoire. In view hereof, this is part of a tradition whose origins date back to the end of the 1950s, when, years after Bergson's decease, his philosophy is taken from the perspective of the link between human subjectivity and negativity and placed in the centre of a philosophical discussion which, given the crisis of traditional anthropology, intends to rethink the bond between human beings and the world surrounding them...
