Abstract
This paper attempts to obtain an empirical evidence about the effects that pensions of Social Security system have on labor supply through the estimation of a supply function for the Spanish economy during the period 1964-84. The theoric final effect is indeterminated and it will depend on the relation between the expected value ofbenefits and the accumulated value of taxes paid. Our findings are that pensions expectations have a positive, but reduced, effect on work effort.
