Abstract
This article analyses Hispanic consecration inscriptions – those related to the consecration liturgy of churches – from the Visigothic period, studying their function and their formulary structure. In addition, other types of epigraphs are studied: those commonly known as invocationes and hortationes, in which we have observed a relationship with the liturgy of consecration and with the formulisms of ceremony. This link leads to the conclusion that one of the functions of these epigraphs was to contribute to the sacralization of the ecclesiastical space.
