Abstract
The paper intends to contribute to a better understanding of the social and economic transformations registered in Spain throughout the first decades of the 20th Century, approaching it from the perspective of consumption. To achieve this, the paper analyses the launch and promotion of the first electrical household appliances in the country at that time, in order to show their early introduction in Spanish households, mainly in the urban world. To this end, the commercial and advertising strategies used to encourage consumers to purchase them are examined. Ultimately, the research aims to elucidate the emergence of the consumer society in Spain, as well as the materialization of the improvement of the living conditions of urban populations, since these devices were objects that provided modernity, comfort and well-being to families.
