Abstract

Las figuras más destacadas del reinado de Isabel II fueron los llamados “espadones”, generales que por su prestigio lideraban las diversas facciones políticas del antiguo liberalismo, y que no dudaron en usar la fuerza para imponerse a sus rivales. Fueron Espartero, el progresista, Narváez, el moderado y O`Donnell, el centrista. Todos ellos se destacaron en las guerras carlistas alcanzando las más prestigiosas condecoraciones y luego fueron miembros del Congreso y del Gobierno en numerosas ocasiones. Vamos a pasar revista a sus carreras pero sólo desde el punto de vista premial, para ver cómo se quisieron representar de forma solemne, con qué condecoraciones españolas y extranjeras en sus principales cuadros de aparato.

The most prominent figures in the reign of Elizabeth II were the so-called “espadones”, generals who, due to their prestige, led the various political factions of the old liberalism, and who did not hesitate to use force to impose themselves on their rivals. They were Espartero, the progressive, Narváez, the moderate and O`Donnell, the centrist. All of them stood out in the Carlist wars, reaching the most prestigious decorations and later they were members of Congress and the Government on numerous occasions. We are going to review their careers but only from the award point of view, to see how they wanted to represent themselves in a solemn way, with what Spanish and foreign decorations in their main apparatus paintings.
