El yacimiento de Tariego de Cerrato: El inicio de la red fluvial actual en el sector central de la Cuenca del Duero

Abstract

El hallazgo de restos de mamíferos en Tariego de Cerrato (Palencia) dentro de la U. T .S. 4 de Mediavilla & Dabrio (1988) permite datar esta unidad como Turoliense, pudiendo sugerirse un Turoliense superior. El hecho de que esta unidad se encuentre encajada en la precedente y que los sedimentos más modernos formen el sistema de terrazas de los ríos actuales permite afirmar que esta unidad representa el primer registro de la red fluvial actual. Así, podemos llegar a afirmar que la definición de la red fluvial se remonta al Turoliense, edad más antigua que las propuestas clásicamente para la Península Ibérica.The last unit related to basin fill at central sector of Duero Basin (T.S.U. 4 of Mediavilla & Dabrio, 1988) is topographically below the previous one and following sediments are clearly fluvial terraces. So, this unit is the first incised unit of Duero Basin and the start of recent fluvial system. Classically, start of fluvial incision at Iberian Peninsula was ascribed to Pliocene or PlioPleistocene although sorne authors invoke an older age and diacbrony for this process. Manunal site in Tariego de Cerrato (T.S.u. 4, Palencia, Spain) sbows Tragoportax, HiPparion, Suidae indet., Cervidae indet. and proboscidcan remains. This forms clearly point to an age previous to liocene. Characteristics of Tragoportax Sp. and proboscidean point to a Turolian, probably Upper Turolian, age for this sediments supporting !he antiquity of fluvial incision.
