Bacterial meningitis is a rapidly progressive inflammation of the cerebral meninges caused by the bacterium Streptococcus pneumoniae. Although there are significant advances in prophylaxis and treatment, pneumococcal meningitis continues being considered a relevant infectious disease worldwide, associated with high mortality and morbility. In addition, infectious diseases of the central nervous system are an important risk factor in children for suffering from cerebral palsy. It is a complex affection that results from immature brain damage and implies movement limitation and postural control deficit. In this way, the aim of the project is exposing and describing the best available evidence that proposes the most beneficial treatment and the early intervention of cerebral palsy. It has been possible to verify that, by means of the proposal of a specific physical therapy treatment, to influence neuronal plasticity by optimizing the child´s posture and movement patterns.
