Abstract
It presents the use of phenomenology as a research methodology in consonance with Verbal Protocol, as inputs in Information Science, focused on research information users in archival context. Phenomenology was used having as a parameter the search of information considered subjective by internal and external archive users. We resorted to phenomenological essence, that is, we consider that each user has its own perceptions of the informational context to which he/she belongs. Therefore, it was necessary to listen to those users, encouraging them to describe in their own words their mental constructions, the forms of thought organization to get the information they need or that was necessary. This procedure was carried out using the method called Verbal Protocol, with the help of guided interview. Thus, considering the information and all its constituent elements from the perspective of information Science, we seek to add value by bringing Phenomenology used as methodology (bringing us the importance of considering the user as a complex subject to get certain information) and the Verbal Protocol as instrument (enabling users a way to expose their mental strategies and concerns, which are not always given due attention in the context of research), and also we used guided interviews as a way of dialoguing with users and incentivize the use of the Individual Verbal Protocol. We consider promising the use of phenomenology in conjunction with the Verbal Protocol in the context of information science because it allowed us permeate various informational nuances and obtain the necessary for research effectiveness of informational search and the cognitive aspects involved in the perception and human essence, in whatever informational units, in the specific case of this study, the Archive of Federal Justice of Paraíba (JFPB).
