Abstract
This paper analyses the Patriarca Juan de Ribera’s chest decorated with an Arabic inscription in kufic characters and kept at the Colegio del Corpus Christi in Valencia. We carry out the formal and typological analysis of the piece, which ensures that it is not a work with reused parts, but entirely made in the 16th century. On the other hand, we undertake the complete epigraphic study of its inscription, a laudatory poem from which we identify other variants spread throughout the Islamic world between the 10th and 17th centuries. Also, the decorative elements of the inscription confirm the dating of the chest in the 16th century. In summary, this object reflects the complexity and paradoxes of the context of cultural hybridization around Patriarch Juan de Ribera and the expulsion of the Moriscos, although future research will confirm if the piece was made inside or outside of Spain
