Cultura del exceso, lo fragmentario, y lo inestable: un espacio de castigo germen de producción artística

Abstract

El afamado semiólogo y crítico de arte Omar Calabrese promovió en 1989 el concepto neobarroco como ese espacio metodológico que privilegia la presencia del cuerpo encarnado en nuestra contemporaneidad, en el arte y en el pensamiento, explorando un espacio de articulación simbólica, donde la conducta, la identidad, el género y la relación espacio público/privado cohabitan y medran. La producción artística radical que utiliza el cuerpo como objeto y espacio de castigo habitualmente muestra heridas, quemaduras y amputaciones. En otras ocasiones se nos muestran espacios y acciones sórdidas y reprobables de actos oscuros. Sean cualquiera de ellas performances, documentación de éstas últimas o producción gráfica per se, en este trabajo, se atiende a la relación que subyace entre la acción, la estampa o la imagen, y la forma de presentar la obra al público. A la estrecha cohabitación entre obra y vida de algunos artistas. En este sentido se generan complicaciones en lo que entraña discernir si el objeto artístico de un trabajo radica en una acción en sí misma, en el cuidadoso trabajo documental que se genera a partir de esas acciones o en la producción gráfica que testimonian una vida. En este trabajo se ahonda en la producción artística que bascula entre la documentación aportada de una acción y la acción o experiencia en sí misma, y el significado de esos testimonios respecto a la vida de su autor. Cada uno de estos aspectos alimenta al otro creando conjuntamente un cuerpo artístico solido e indisoluble.

The famous semiologist and art critic Omar Calabrese promoted in 1989 the neo-baroque concept as that methodological space that privileges the presence of the embodied body in our contemporaneity exploring a space of symbolic articulation, where behavior, identity, gender and the relationship between public / private space coexist and thrive. Radical artistic production that uses the body as an object and space for punishment usually shows wounds, burns and amputations. At times sordid and reprehensible spaces and actions of dark acts are shown. Whether any of them are performances, documentation from them, or graphic production it self, this text addresses the underlying relationship between the action, the print or the image, and the way the work is presented to the public. As well as the cohabitation between work and life of some artists. In this sense, complications are generated in what involves discerning whether the artistic object of a work lies in an action itself, in the careful documentary work that is generated from those actions or in the graphic production that testify experiences of an individual. This work delves into the artistic production that oscillates between the documentation provided of an action or experience itself, and the meaning of these testimonies regarding the life of its author. Each of these aspects feeds the other, jointly creating a solid and indissoluble artistic body.
