Los paisajes culturales como transferencia del conocimiento. Una solución para los retos actuales de la arqueología

Abstract

Esta tesis se propone explorar el potencial que tiene la arqueología para transferir el conocimiento mediante una estrategia definida. En primer lugar, se analiza la relación entre la arqueología y su contexto, tanto científico como social. Esto incluye las diversas maneras de interrelacionarse con una sociedad ávida de participar en ella: arqueología comunitaria y pública. Posteriormente se introducirá la teoría de la investigación-acción, para redimensionar qué entendemos por valor social de la arqueología. Partiendo de allí, se presentará el concepto de paisaje cultural como herramienta clave para conseguir una innovación social efectiva a través del patrimonio cultural. Finalmente se explorarán las metodologías existentes para medir el impacto del patrimonio cultural mediante un análisis crítico que desembocará en unas recomendaciones. En el apartado siguiente se aplicarán parcialmente estas recomendaciones en un estudio del caso de Las Médulas como paisaje cultural. La tesis culminará con las conclusiones de dicho estudio, para determinar hasta qué punto el paisaje cultural ha tenido un impacto real en la población local. Estas conclusiones incluirán un estudio crítico para determinar cómo se puede mejorar dicho impacto, y si de hecho se da innovación social. Finalmente, se presentará un modelo de intervención óptimo que puedan utilizar los arqueólogos para fomentar el desarrollo de innovación social derivada de su investigación.

This thesis will explore the potential that archaeology has to transfer knowledge following a set strategy. First of all, the relation between archaeology and its context, both scientific and social. This includes the various ways in which it interacts with a society which is pushing to participate in it: community and public archaeology. Afterwards we will introduce the theory of action-research, which will help to re-situate what we understand as the value for society of archaeology. This will then lead to the introduction of the concept of cultural landscape, a key tool to achieve effective social innovation through cultural heritage. Finally, various methodologies used to evaluate the impact of cultural heritage will be critically analyzed and final recommendations proposed. In the next section, part of these recommendations will be applied to the case study of Las Médulas as a cultural landscape.. The thesis will culminate with the conclusions of this study, which will help determine whether this cultural landscape has had a real impact on the local communities. These conclusions will include a critical study which will ascertain how this impact can be improved, and whether we can conclude that social innovation has been achieved. Finally, we will present an optimal intervention model which archaeologists can use to foster the development of social innovation based on their research.
