Barreras lingüísticas y servicios sociales : estudio sobre migrantes de retiro europeos en España

Abstract

La migración de retiro ha adquirido gran relevancia en España, donde cada vez más personas mayores europeas eligen residir por su clima y calidad de vida. Este fenómeno plantea desafíos de integración y acceso a servicios esenciales, en especial en relación con las barreras lingüísticas que afectan la interacción con los Servicios Sociales. Aunque el idioma ha sido mencionado en estudios previos, no se ha investigado suficientemente su impacto en la calidad y accesibilidad de estos servicios para los migrantes de retiro. La tesis se centra en la importancia del idioma, destacando que la edad avanzada de estos migrantes los hace vulnerables, no solo por sus limitaciones físicas y cognitivas, sino también por las dificultades de adaptación a un entorno cultural diferente. Retirement migration has gained significant relevance in Spain, where an increasing number of European retirees choose to reside due to its climate and quality of life. This phenomenon presents challenges in terms of integration and access to essential services, especially concerning the language barriers that affect interactions with Social Services. Although language has been mentioned in previous studies, its impact on the quality and accessibility of these services for retirement migrants has not been sufficiently investigated. This thesis focuses on the importance of language, highlighting that the advanced age of these migrants makes them vulnerable, not only due to physical and cognitive limitations but also because of the challenges of adapting to a different cultural environment.
