Tecnología, contexto y significado: aportaciones para la investigación de la orfebrería castreña

Abstract

El objetivo principal de esta tesis doctoral, presentada en formato de compendio de publicaciones, es contribuir al estudio del origen, desarrollo y cambio tecnológico de la orfebrería castreña, una de las producciones más características y discutidas del noroeste peninsular durante la II Edad del Hierro y la primera romanización (ca. S. IV a.C. – I d.C.).La vía principal de investigación se ha centrado en el estudio tecnológico de los materiales, considerando tanto manufacturas como evidencias de procesado metalúrgico. Estos trabajos se han apoyado en buena medida en el uso de procedimientos de caracterización arqueométrica no destructivos aplicados al estudio topográfico y analítico del registro arqueológico. Entre ellos, destacan la microscopía electrónica de barridocombinada con el microanálisis por energía dispersiva de rayos X (SEM-EDS), y el análisis por fluorescencia de rayos X mediante espectrómetros portátiles (pXRF/hhXRF).Uno de los factores que ha perjudicado la investigación sobre la orfebrería castreña es la falta de una información contextual básica sobre una parte significativa de los materiales conservados (p.ej. procedencia, circunstancias de recuperación, o historia reciente). The main objective of this doctoral thesis, in the form of a compendium of publications, is to contributeto the study of the origin, development and technological change of the Castro Culture goldsmithing, oneof the most characteristic and discussed productions of the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula during the2nd Iron Age and the Early Roman period (ca. 4th century BC - 1st century AD).The main line of research has focused on the technological study of the materials, considering both themanufactures and the evidences of metallurgical processing. The studies carried out have been largelybased on the use of non-destructive archaeometric characterisation procedures, which have been appliedto the topographical and analytical study of the archaeological record. Among them, scanning electronmicroscopy combined with energy dispersive X-ray microanalysis (SEM-EDS) and X-ray fluorescenceanalysis by means of portable spectrometers (pXRF/hhXRF) stand out.One of the factors that has hampered research is the lack of basic contextual information (e.g.provenance, circumstances of recovery, or recent history) on a large part of the conserved materials.Considering this problem, a complementary line of action was proposed, oriented towards the recoveryand critical study of this type of data.
